andy tytherleigh and jim boxall
Once Cracked Mirrors & Stopped Clocks had been released the next
step was to start performing live. However, this posed a problem.
Despite having played and produced the music alone, Tom soon realised he would need help to take it on the road as a decent live show.
Jim Boxall (pictured, left) is an old friend of Tom's who has been working with video and moving images for over a decade. Tom worked with Jim in the past both with Wauvenfold and Penfold Plum. Back then, Jim was part of a VJ duo called av/dv with Jonathan Gillie and has worked with a number of notable artists including Theo Travis, Do Make say Think, Raphael Lozano-Hemmer, Jan Kopinski and Hexstatic.
Jim and Tom set themselves a date to play their first gig in December 2007 (footage of which as viewable in the film section). Using this set date as the impetus to practice hard they worked solidly to create a performance they were happy with. As the date loomed ever closer, Tom was struggling to juggle all the arrangements himself. It was becoming clear that Origamibiro needed to enlist the help of another musician.
Andy Tytherleigh (aka, Hubtone, Debaser Boy) is a man on most
musicians' radar in Nottingham due to his outstanding ability to
perform at a professional standard in almost any genre of music. First
and foremost, a double bassist, Andy can turn his hand to any
instrument and play it well. Tom bumped into him at a party and they
got talking. To cut a long (drunken) conversation short, Andy agreed to
play double bass for the first gig.
Andy's musicianship has now become a valued asset to the new material being worked on for the forthcoming album as well as being an integral part of the live show. You could say that Origamibiro is now a duo.
